CHARCOALISH

Artist Statement
Daniel
Brenneman

My work tells a story through the movement of a moment. I’m drawn to the tension between something that feels untethered and rough, yet still refined and intentional. I work primarily in charcoal and acrylic because the materials allow me to balance control with unpredictability. The way charcoal moves across a surface mirrors the energy, emotion, and imperfection that exist inside real life.
I’m less interested in capturing a perfect likeness and more compelled by the gravity of a moment — the split second where emotion, purpose, and presence collide. My faith in Christ deeply shapes how I see people, especially in how they live out what they were created to do.
When someone encounters my work, I want them to feel pulled into that moment, to feel what the subject feels, and to walk away understanding both the subject and themselves a little more clearly.

If You've Got a Wall, I've Got an Idea
Large-scale artwork and murals have a special place in my heart. It's where I started creating art again and where some of the largest impacts are made. When done right, it's not just art. It's a semi-truck of story-telling that you can't miss and will never forget.
