THE JOURNEY

The Power of a Push
I was stunned. It had really been over a decade since I'd created a piece of art. Did I still have it? Could I even form a discernible shape? Maybe...maybe not. But I had to try. It was for a friend, an opportunity to commemorate a moment and a legacy.
40 hours later I stepped back and thought "I might still have it. This kinda works." Then came the reveal, the tears, the praises. It confirmed what I felt — the days of creating art wasn't behind me.
So I did what anyone in my position would do...nothing. Absolutely nothing.
12 months later, a gallery in the space featured internationally shown artist Juan Logan. When he found out I was responsible for the art on the wall, he asked where I was showing. I managed to feel confused, stunned, honored, and embarrassed all at the same time.
"You're looking at it."
It was the only response I could manage.
With a witty quickness he fired back "So you're just one of those people who has a gift and does nothing with it, huh?" I wanted to run through a brick wall and simultaneously cry myself to sleep in a corner after such a poignant retort from a titan of the art world.
I had a choice. Do I go the "cry myself to sleep" route or find some brick walls to run towards? I've always been an insatiably curious individual so there was only one response.
Dive in.
In doing so, I feel like I'm finding my voice and style more and more each day — like it's a never-ending journey of discovering the bottomless well of my soul. But it's healing. It's comforting. It's exciting.
Without the push, though, I'd have still been standing at the edge of the well wondering if I still have it.
But alas, here you are, on the journey with me. I took the leap.
As you follow along and/or walk side by side with me, don't get caught at the edge of your well. Allow me to offer a gentle push into the depths of your capabilities and the stories yet to be written.
There's more in you. Jump. The journey is one you'll never forget.
